NHL Predictions 10/24

Season Record (Winning Teams): 43-32

Season Record (Full Predictions) : 2-73

Perfect with the teams last night makes tonight a fun night to blog about predictions wise. So here we go:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Toronto at Vancouver 7 PM

Joey MacDonald will be making the start in goal for the win less Leafs this evening as they travel to Vancouver for the "Wellwood Cup" game. Although Vancouver has been haunted by the injury bug to start this season, they still have some amazing talent, and with Roberto Luongo in net, it helps them stay in every game every night they play. Tonight, should be another notch in the loss column for the Leafs. It's going to be a long year!

Final - Canucks 4 Leafs 1

---------------------------------------------------------------

New York Rangers at Montreal 7 PM

Welcome back to Montreal Chris Higgins. I wonder how much of a "homecoming" this game will be for him? Lundqvist vs Halak makes for an interesting goaltending match up for this evening. A bit of line juggling by coach Tortorella for tonight's contest has a very speddy 1st line to match up against the Canadiens only line. It should be one hell of a game.

Final - Rangers 3 Canadiens 2 F/OT

---------------------------------------------------------------

Boston at Ottawa 7 PM

The mash up forward units for the B's seem to be getting the job done over the past two games. Losing Savard and Lucic have probably cost them more points then they have gained, but the Bruins seem to be keeping the pace stable without the injured players. The Senators showed a serious display of "not giving up" against the Preds the other night, but they can not play as flat as they did or tonight could be another messy evening for the Sens. Brian Elliot will attempt to help the situation out in Ottawa with a strong performance tonight.

Final - Sens 4 Bruins 2

---------------------------------------------------------------

Florida at Philadelphia 7 PM

The Panthers gave up a two goal lead and wound up losing in a shootout last night while the Flyers have had some rest since beating Boston in a shootout the other night. Tonight, Ray Emery get's yet another start in goal in hopes of not having a repeat performance of last week's tilt against the Panthers. The Cats, still trying to find a true identity for themselves, will attempt to add more points to their standings. As Dustin Leed and myself will hope for a Flyers victory this evening, it's anyone's guess outside of that.

Final - Flyers 4 Panthers 1

---------------------------------------------------------------

Washington at New York Islanders 7 PM

In what should be the most lopsided affair of the evening, the Washington Capitals travel out to Nassau County to face the young New York Islanders and Mr. Tavares. Alex Semin and Boyd Gordon are two notable scratches for the Caps tonight, while the Isles will be without Freddy Meyer as Bruno Gervais will take his place on the blue line. Rollie the Goalie will attempt to clone himself and break dance as two goalies between the pipes to keep the Islanders in the game this evening, but it is highly unlikely they come out with a victory. It would be a massive upset if the Isles win, so with that.....

Final - Caps 5 Islanders 2

---------------------------------------------------------------

San Jose at Atlanta 7 PM

The Thrashers will call on the "Moose" Johan Hedberg for tonight as they play host to the San Jose Sharks. Speaking of not having an identity and being on a roller coaster ride, the San Jose Sharks can not find any consistency to their game. After beating the Rangers on the road in a destructive fashion, they couldn't find a way to do the same against a mediocre Lightning club. Tonight, they sure will hope to find a way back on the winning track, while the Thrashers will have some other thoughts. It's a battle of the one line machine against the explosive Russian and his crew.

Final - Thrashers 4 Sharks 3 F/SO

---------------------------------------------------------------

New Jersey at Pittsburgh 7:30 PM

Next! Seriously, when you despise two teams as much as I despise these two teams playing this evening in "Steel City", it is very difficult to discuss the game. Due to my fantasy team having Marc-Andre Fleury, I'll be pulling for MAF and the two-headed monster of Crosby/Malkin to take down the Devils in Pittsburgh. Everything else, continue reading the rest of the games.....ha!

Final - Penguins 2 Devils 0

---------------------------------------------------------------

Buffalo at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM

North meets South tonight as the Lightning host the Sabres in the sunshine state. Unless you are a fan of either club, I'm not sure how many out of market viewers will actually care for this game. However, it could be a display of two offensively gifted, explosive clubs. The Lightning and Sabres both put up 5-spots in recent games and both look to continue that momentum tonight. I think the Sabres have the upper hand because of Ryan Miller, and with that being said.....

Final - Sabres 4 Bolts 2

---------------------------------------------------------------

Carolina at Minnesota 8 PM

Two teams that are an absolute mess to start the season are two teams that will face off against each other tonight. The Wild are finding it very hard to score goals and win games, and the Hurricanes are finding it hard to win games, period. With Ruutu getting suspended for three games, it's just another loss of offensive production for the Hurricanes. The Wild need to get Havlat and company going offensively. It's a toss up for tonight, but the edge goes to the home team. Look for Backstrom to have his best performance of the season tonight.

Final - Wild 4 Hurricanes 1

---------------------------------------------------------------

Dallas at St. Louis 8 PM

Oh, Stars fans, how can I comfort you all? I feel a very long season of struggles ahead, and tonight will only be a mark in my predictions. Not only will I state that the Blues will have the Stars signing what the team of St. Louis is called and seeing what the Dallas club is known as, I also state that the long season prediction will stand correct. Even without T.J. Oshie, the Blues have enough offense to be a dynamic club. Ty Conklin get's the nod tonight, and if he plays anything like he did in his last outing....

Final - Blues 3 Stars 1

---------------------------------------------------------------

Nashville at Chicago 8:30 PM

Goaltending issues for both clubs are causing quite the rumblings for the start of the seasons of both the Predators and Blackhawks. Both teams have also been hit by the injury bug with the Preds losing Captain Jason Arnott and the Hawks going without Captain Jonathan Toews. Tonight should be a fun one from the windy city ::insert sarcasm here:: As I look into my "Cristo-ball" I see a statement: "Hawks Win! Hawks Win! Hawks Win!"

Final - Hawks 4 Preds 3

---------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles at Phoenix 9 PM

Ilya Bryzgalov will finally get exposed tonight by the Kings offense. The Coyotes could potentially be the Cinderella story of the season in the NHL, but tonight that chapter of reading will have a night off. The Kings will show why all season long I will discuss them as a playoff team, even without Justin Williams in the line up. The desert will be hot and the Kings will crown the Coyotes tonight.

Final - Kings 5 Coyotes 3

---------------------------------------------------------------

Detroit at Colorado 9 PM

Eight straight starts for Colorado netminder Craig Anderson could spell doom for the Avs as they play host to the mighty Red Wings. However, Chris Osgood has not been good this season with an under .900 save percentage and an over 3 goals against average. Colorado has some gifted offensive players, but the players that Detroit have throughout the line up could cause havoc for the Avs. Offensive battle of goalie duel?

Final - Avs 6 Wings 5 F/SO

---------------------------------------------------------------

Columbus at Anaheim 10 PM

Western Conference showdown which could also be a potential first round playoff match up. Playoffs? In October? What is wrong with this blogger discussing such situations? Well, it is what 30 teams play for that started on October 1st, isn't it? Still waiting for goaltending confirmation from both clubs makes this one a little hard to predict. So I will start by predicting that JS Giguere will play against Steve Mason. If that stands correct, so will this...

Final - Jackets 4 Ducks 2

---------------------------------------------------------------

Edmonton at Calgary 10 PM

The battle of Alberta - Round 3. Why should I even bother to sit here and write two or three paragraphs on one of the better heated rivalries in all of hockey? It's plain to see, and we all know what will be going on tonight. The only thing that I know, that none of the rest of you do is the outcome ::wink::

Final - Oilers 3 Flames 2

enjoy the great night of games all!
