Senators very active on free agent day
Ottawa Senators fans will miss Nick Foligno. He is a heart and soul player who gave everything he had for the club. He has a great personality in the locker room, and could be called upon in all situations.
But, Senators fan will love Mark Methot. Methot is the type of shut-down, hard-nosed defenseman Ottawa has been missing since the A-Train (Anton Volchenkov) left to free agency. He blocks shots, starts against top competition, and frequently penalty kills and has defensive-zone starts.
Guillaume Latendresse is a true buy-low free agent. Latendresse has been dynamic at times, frustrating at others, and just purely not playing most of the time. Murray took a gamble by signing the 25-year old, but it is a low-risk, high-reward signing. If Latendresse puts up even 15 goals, which he will surely do if he plays at least 50 games, it is a good investment at $1.25 million for one year.
Mike Lundin representsa solid depth signing. Lundin is a two-way defender with some mobility and some shut-down ability. He won't slot into the top four, but will fit in well on the bottom pairing.
Murray has addressed Ottawa's needs on the blue-line, although he will likely bring in on more depth defender. Murray may look to add one more top-six forward, just in case Alfredsson does not return. The day can only be seen as a quiet, but smashing success for the Senators so far.
