Sens draft three forwards in first round
While several of the Ottawa Senators' draft picks from the first round won't immediately impact the team's performance, they addressed some crucial needs for the Senators.
With that being said, sixth-overall selection, Swedish centre Mika Zibanejad, will have a shot at making the team out of training camp, and his contract even permits that. Ottawa needed a big-bodied centre, and Zibanejad fits the bill at 6'2 and 191 pounds. Hopefully he can eventually develop into a solid second-line centre.
The Senators continued to address their need for high-level offensive talent, and they managed to do so by bringing in two top-flight OHL wingers, Peterborough's Matt Puempel and Plymouth's Stefan Noesen. Puempel sits at 6'0 and 196 pounds, while Noesen sits at 6'0 and 195 pounds.Puempel potted 34 goals in 55 games while Noesen also potted 34 goals, but in 68 games instead.
In the later rounds of the draft, the team should look to hole up their defensive-forward depth, by bringing in a few guys who can compete for the bottom-six positions. Ottawa will likely look to grab a defender or two, as some of their prospect defenders will most likely be making the jump to the big team next season.
