Tampa Bay Lightning Opening Night Roster Set

Labrie makes the teamNHL rosters aren't due until tomorrow at 5:00 pm, but after stating the team that practices on Friday will be the opening night squad, Tampa Bay Lightning coach Guy Boucher has made up his mind on his 2013 team.

At noon today, Mike Angelidis, JT WymanMatt Taorminaand Kyle Wilson were placed on waivers with the intent of being sent to Syracuse. This means that defenseman Keith Aulie and forwards Cory Conacher and Pierre-Cedric Labrie have made the team. (Labrie Photo/Linda Hamilton)

Tyler JohnsonRadko Gudas and Mark Barberio will be returned to the Syracuse Crunch. All three players skated well in camp and are a big part of the Lightning’s future.

Seeing the diminutive Cory Conacher on the roster is not a surprise. He has impressed since joining the Lightning organization and was a major camp contributor, playing alongside Vincent Lecavalier and Teddy Purcell and not looking out of place. He proved himself by leading the AHL in goals while earning MVP honors and leading the Norfolk Admirals to the Calder Cup championship last season. ”We feel he has done a lot in the American League already… and if you look at his year and half, he has continued to improve,” Lightning coach Guy Boucher said. “He was good last year in camp . . . and he came in this year and I felt he was on fire the entire camp.”

Labrie was in a battle with Tyler Johnson and a host of others for the final forward roster spot. In the end, Boucher chose the physical Labrie who is also more than willing to drop the mitts. Boucher said of Labrie, “The guys love him, he’s a funny guy too. The chemistry’s terrific and on the ice he’s a big guy that can handle the puck.”

The Bolts will carry 23 players to start the season; 13 forwards, eight defenseman and two goaltenders.

Barring any last minute changes, here is your 2013 Tampa Bay Lightning team.
