Preds scratch out 3-2 win over the Blackhawks

In their best game in the past nine starts, the Blackhawks still couldn't come away with a win.

It didn't help that Pekka Rinne was - well, being typical stonewall Pekka Rinne. It was a solid battle throughout and Chicago played a style of hockey they've been challenged to play for quite some time: tight defense and sustained pressuring offense. The difference was Ryan Ellis's late tally against Chicago, a soft goal at 14:18 that potentially could have been blocked by Andrew Shaw - and equally should have been stopped for Ray Emery.

Even if the Blackhawks did not win, the boost of having pushed the game to overtime would've been valuable - not only to their scoresheet, but for the team's morale. Unfortunately, Chicago couldn't tie it up - although they certainly tried - and the Predators won in regulation.

Three of Chicago's losses in this 9-game losing streak have come against the Predators; Chicago is 1-3-0 against Nashville so far this season, and the two teams will face each other twice more before the regular season ends.
