Player-A-Day: Christian Hanson/Brett Lebda
I will be doing two player-a-days today. Tomorrow I will be writing a blog on the Kadri-Kessel-Bozak line that I have been waiting to see all preseason. I truly believe this will save Kadri's pre-season.
One of the "major" college signings Burke made towards the end of the 2008-09 season, Christian Hanson will be taking up the 4th line center position of this Leafs team.
Although Burke hoped for Hanson to be in a much better position, as he hoped he would turn out to be a top 6 winger, he can't be upset with the type of player he has become. This past off-season Christian Hanson knew what role he was going to play this season, and he got bigger, and stronger.
He will be playing with tough-guys Mike Brown, and Colton Orr (and possibly Jay Rosehill on some nights) and won't rack up points, but will be an effective energy player.
MY PREDICTION: 5G 10A 15P 100PIM's EVEN
Christian will have a decent year point wise, taking up a role of a shutdown center. He may see some time on the 3rd line.
Brett Lebda signed a two year deal with the Maple Leafs in August, many believing that the Leafs were going to move Tomas Kaberle. Turns out, that wasn't the case.
Brett Lebda won a Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings just 3 seasons ago, and was a big part of that team as well. Lebda's game isn't flashy and you won't see any dazzling moves from him, but he plays a solid defensive game and can play the power play if needed.
Last season he played 63 games, notching a goal and 8 points, with a -2 rating and just 24 PIMs.
MY PREDICTION: 2G 7A 9P -3 17 PIMs
Brett will have a solid debut season, playing around 60 games. He won't be noticed and that's exactly what he needs to do, not get noticed.
