In the unexpected category was Quebec's preference of a draft pick over Kabanov, and the non-selection of Russian goaltender Andrey Makarov, who is likely to become a free agent now. There is, however, the possibility that he will be selected in the regular draft.

Trade period also kicked off today, with the rights to Canadian silver medalist Olivier Roy and Jonathan Lessard changing hands over to Baie Comeau from Bathurst, who acquires a 2011 2nd round pick, two 2012 4th round picks and a 2012 8th round pick in the exchange. The Drakkar also acquired Tomas Filippi from the Quebec Remparts for a 2011 4th round pick (Rouyn-Noranda's) and goaltender Antonio Mastropietro from the Victoriaville Tigres in exchange for a 2012 3rd round pick.

Memorial Cup champion Gabriel Bourret now finds himself with Chicoutimi as Saint John gave up a 2012 2nd rounder in that deal. The Saguenéens also acquired blueliner Charles Landry from the Montreal Juniors, essentially only for the promise that they will be compensated if he joins the professional ranks this season. David Rose and Jonathan Brunelle are now members of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, with the Juniors re-acquiring their first-round pick in 2013 and the Voltigeurs getting back their first-round pick in this year's draft, as well as one in the third round.

All other transactions can be seen here, where they will be updated over the course of the weekend.
