Game Preview: Blackhawks vs. Avalanche

CHI v. COL- Game Preview

7:00pm CST

The Blackhawks look to extend their record-setting unbeaten in regulation games streak against the Colorado Avalanche tonight. This will be the team’s first meeting of the lockout-shortened season. The Blackhawks are coming off of a victory over the Minnesota Wild where they scored three first period goals, two by Bryan Bickell. The Avalanche lost to the Detroit Red Wings last night 2-1. Center Paul Stastny scored in the third period for Colorado.

While the Blackhawks have won ten games in a row, the Avalanche has lost six of their last ten games. The Blackhawks are number three in National Hockey League in penalty kill percentage (88.8%) while the Avalanche is number 24 in the same category (77.8%).

Matt Duchene and PA Parenteau are tied for the team lead in points for the Avalanche. Winger Patrick Kane has led the way for the Blackhawks.

Corey Crawford is the probable goaltender for the Blackhawks tonight while Semyon Varlamov will most likely be in goal for the Avalanche.

The Blackhawks are clearly playing well right now. As long as the streak continues, the Blackhawks will get everyone’s best game. Like every team at this point in the season, the Avalanche wants to be the team that ends the unprecedented run the Blackhawks have been on. Expect to get a maximum effort from the Avalanche despite what it says it the loss column.
