Game Preview: Blackhawks vs. Predators

CHI v. NSH- Game Preview

7:30pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks head home to Madison Street as they face off against the Nashville Predators. This will be one of three meetings the teams will have this week.

The Blackhawks are coming off of a 7-1 drubbing of the Detroit Red Wings. The strength of the minor league system was on full display. Jeremy Morin and Brandon Saad made key contributions in yesterday’s win.

The Predators are led by defensemen Shea Weber, Roman Josi and forward Martin Erat. The Blackhawks continue to get strong play from Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Saad.

The Blackhawks continue to be among the league leaders in goals for and goals against while the Predators check in at number 14 for goals per period (2.6).

During the month of March, the Predators only won five games. They scored 42 goals which is an average of three per game. They also gave up at least four goals in a game five times.

The Predators are on the outside looking in when it comes to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Currently, they are two points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final playoff spot. Look forward to a strong effort. Even though the Blackhawks shutout the Predators 3-0 back in February, the teams have traditionally given each other fits. Remember the playoffs of 2010? That was a series that could have easily gone Nashville’s way.

Corey Crawford will be in goal for the Blackhawks tonight while Pekka Rinne will most likely be in goal for the visitors.

In other news, the team traded for San Jose Sharks center Michal Handzus according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. San Jose will receive a fourth round draft pick. Handzus played with the Blackhawks during the 2006-2007 season. Forward Brandon Bollig was sent to Rockford in a corresponding move.

Injury report: Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa are both out with upper body injuries for Chicago.  Colin Wilson and Scott Hannan are both out with upper body injuries for Nashville. Mike Fisher is listed as questionable for tonight's game against Chicago    with an upper body injury.
