Things heating up. Rumor is that it's a 5-horse race, including the Rangers, Kings, Bruins, Devils and Flyers. The Hawks may be possibly involved as well. More to come.

Blog from last night:

Moments after TCL's and checkingfrombehind.com's Michael Aldred reported that the Leafs Garnett Exelby could be on his way to the Los Angeles Kings for a 4th round pick, another rumor involving the Kings has surfaced.According to Cory Lavalette of SB Nation, Ilya Kovalchuk could be well on his way to La-La-Land, as early as tonight. No word yet on who would be going the other direction.

This comes on the heels of TSN's Bob Mackenzie reporting that Kings GM Dean Lombardi was close to making a deal with Carolina's Jim Rutherford for Ray Whitney.

In almost symbolic turn of events, Kovalchuk hasn't scored in 3 games, and ended tonight's 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning by smashing his stick in frustration. Could this have been his last game as the Thrashers' Franchise Player? Could this be the second time in three days we witness a team make multiple trades in a single day?

Stay tuned to TCL for all the breaking details.
