Brian Burke Ruins Team USA

Brian Burke was charged with the task of building an American team that could contend with Canada and Russian for an Olympic Gold Medal. And despite having all the tools to do so at his disposal, he put together one of the saddest excuses for an Olympic team I've ever seen.

I'm almost at a loss for words looking at team USA's roster. General Manager Brian Burke says that he had to pick specialty players to be able to compete with Canada and Russia. He says that he tried to build a tough and rugged team, but the roster he revealed after this afternoon's Winter Classic is almost mind-bogglingly bad.

There are the obvious picks, some Burke picks you knew he was going to make, but a lot of good american players were left off the team in favor of bad ones. How does Mike Komisarek make an Olympic team? Chris Drury? Ryan Callahan? Really Brian Burke? Really??

I understand you want some PK and defensive specialists, but it's not like some of the higher end players you already have and a lot of the omissions can't play defense.

This team is going to fail hard. Their only saving grace is between the pipes, but I'm afraid that even Ryan Miller and Tim Thomas can't save this team.

See for yourselves:

Tim Thomas (BOS)
Ryan Miller (BUF)
Jonathan Quick (LA)

Brian Rafalski (DET) - Ryan Suter (NAS)
Paul martin (NJ) - Mike Komisarek (TOR)
Erik Johnson (STL) - Brooks Orpik (PIT)
Jack Johnson (LA)

Phil Kessel (TOR) - Paul Stastny (COL) - Patrick Kane (CHI)
Zach Parise (NJ) - Ryan Kesler (VAN) - Jamie Langenbrunner (NJ)
Ryan Maline (TB) - Joe Pavelski (SJ) - Bobby Ryan (ANA)
Dustin Brown (LA) - Chris Drury (NYR) - Ryan Callahan (NYR)
David Backes, 25 (STL)

There isn't even a point in running down a list of players that were snubbed. All you have to know is that there are about 50 American hockey players who are better statistically than Chris Drury.

No offense to any of my American readers, but I hope this team fails and fails hard.
