Leopold to Penguins

According to George Richards of the Miami Herald, panthers defenseman Jordan Leopold has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a second round pick in this year's draft, pending the call to the NHL's offices.

The 29 year-old, 6'1'' 200lbs defenseman has 7 goals and 11 assists in 61 games with the Panthers this season, and a -7 rating. He provides experience and depth to a Pittsburgh team which has suffered its fair share of injuries on the blue line this season.

This will be the 5th time the player would have been traded. Originally drafted by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 1999, Leopold has played for the Flames, Avalanche, and most recently, the Panthers. The trade comes less than 10 hours after the trade freeze was lifted last night.

More to come.
