Predators hobble to heartbreak loss

The Nashville Predators continued their road trip Wednesday as they flew in to meet the Coyotes in Phoenix. Having lost their past two games to division rivals St. Louis and Detroit the Preds were expected to bounce back and get back to their winning ways of old.

Before the game there was both good and bad news for the team as Marcel Goc was taken off IR and cleared to play against the Coyotes as well as TooToo and Bouillon both missed the previous game against Detroit. Unfortunately Nashville would lose another Key player as the injuries just do not seem to let up as Erat would not make the trip with Nashville, which would leave them without Lombardi, Suter and Erat all top players for the team and all have no timetable as of yet for their return.

1st Period Notes
- Jovanovski scored on a screened shot that found its way under the bar just 1:08 into the first
- At 08:58 Bouillon would answer with a wrister that tipped something in front and slide through Bryzgalov’s legs
- 30 seconds later at 09:38 Kostitsyn should an extra gear and outworked the Yotes defenseman and managed to slip on past the goalie
- Shots were 11 for preds, 8 for yotes

2nd Period Notes
- Just 01:09 into the 2nd Jovanovski did it again scoring on a slap shot from the bottom of the circles to tie the game up
- Later on the power play Hornqvist would score at 12:44 on a rebound to give the lead to the preds once again
- Tons of chances for both teams during the second but both missing
- Rinne looks uncomfortable in net scrambling more than he normally does
- Preds with 8 shots, yotes with 10

3rd Period notes
- In the third preds got into penalty trouble and Stempniak would score coming down the wing on the power play
- Than just over a minute later Jovanovski would get his first career hat-trick on the power play by completing a back door play and yotes take the lead
- Preds would try to mount a comeback but fall short in the end
- Final shots: Preds – 31 Yotes – 28

Thoughts on the game
- Rinne looked out of place and seemed to be fighting the puck, he doesn’t like to allow goals and when he starts to he seems to over think on plays which leads to more goals
- Preds penalty kill had been terrific until the third period where stupid unnecessary penalties cost them the lead and game
- Kostitsyn needs to be given more ice time as he was having a terrific game setting up all kinds of chances in the offensive zone, he should also be given some power play time as he is very creative with the puck
- O'Reilly continues to impress me this season as he has matured so much compared to last year, he is making smart plays and really looks like he belongs in the top six
- Wilson had a good game playing 18 minutes, was somewhat productive but getting chances and showing his size and skill as well
- This team has good depth but the injuries are starting to hurt them, if Suter, Lombardi and Erat are out for a prolonged period of time this team could start to drop in standings

Next game for Preds is on Saturday versus LA Kings, should be an interesting match.
