Pacioretty Pops Puck Past Pekka

Overtime is becoming a friend to the Habs on this road trip. Two games two overtime victories against western conference teams. Peter Budaj, playing in his second game of the season was sensational stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced in a fast paced entertaining game.

The Nashville Predators played the 1000th game in their history. Barry Trotz also was coaching on this mile-stone night - only the fourth man in the history of the NHL to coach 1000 games with the same team. The others are Al Arbour - Islanders, Lindy Ruff (Sabres), Billy Reah (Blackhawks).

The Habs out played the Predators in the first period - skating and passing with authority and totally dominating. The only goal of the period came on a sweet play by David Desharnais with assists to Cole and Gorges. Pekka Rinne and Peter Budaj were  tested and came out on top of this entertaining period - the total shots on goal in the first was 8-4 for the visitors.

The second period featured a few penalties by the Habs-the first one resulting in a face-off loss and Gomez not picking up his man Shea Weber who blasted a fabulous shot behind Peter Budaj. The Habs continued to take penalties and had a two-man disadvantage for 47 seconds - there was some awesome goaltending and penalty killing to keep the score tied at one.

The Habs power play woes continue. They have scored on 7 of their 58 opportunities and have given up 4 short-handed goals to rank 30th in the league. The coaching staff continues to have Tomas Plekanec play the point and the adversaries seem to thrive on pressuring him with the puck.

The lively third period featured some end to end action  with both goalies displaying the characteristics that brought them to the NHL level. Quite simply, solid, spectacular hockey. The period was very even and Rinne making a fabulous same in the last ten seconds of the game.

The game was finally ended in the overtime period when Max Pacioretty placed a perfect shot over Pekka Rinne`s shoulder that hit the crossbar and went in. thus ending a great game by both teams.

Both teams actually deserved the win, which is not something one can say about many games this season.

I only got to see the OT period, but from what you say sounded like a good game. Hopefully both teams build off this and move forward in the right direction.

I did see the Weber shot, he was due for a goal after having a 2.5% shooting percentage one was bound to go in.

Thank you for reading Greg- yes it was a good game. It is always great when it is close and both teams put forth an effort.

I actually kind of wanted the Preds to win this one because of the 1000th game thing. That's 2 teams this season for which we've ruined big moments lol. But a good win even if it took OT. Absolutely loved the Pacioretty goal, he owned Rinne on that one.

PS, great title.

Thank you on the title - seems to have hit a chord. Pacioretty's goal was a beauty shot not much space and he did nail it.

He telegraphed it. It was a little ridiculous. Habs need more goals scored like that.
