Two in a Row - really!

There was a ceremonial face off in the Bell Centre featuring Yvan Cournoyer, Paul Henderson and Vladislav Tretiak. Very nice ovation for the two hall of famers and one that possibly should be in the hallowed halls. The scratches for this game were Yannick Weber and Peteri Nokelainen.

The The much anticipated follow up game to the Eller game started off slowly for the Habs. The Lightning scored the dreaded first goal by Vincent Lecavalier with assists by Eric Brewer and Dominic Moore. The Habs did not have any shots until approximately the six minute mark. After scoring the first goal, the Lightning went into their defensive shell.

The second period started with a lot of energy for the Habs - Plekanec scored and it was called back because he hit a Lightning player in the face with his stick and was given a penalty. The Lightning did not take advantage of the ensuing power play. The Habs started going to the net with more regularity with Mike Blunden scoring on a goalmouth scramble with assists going to Hal Gill and Mathieu Darche. Two devastating hits by Andrei Kostitsyn and Erik Cole opened up space for a streaking Max Pacioretty whi whipped a nice snapshot that clearly beat Mathieu Garon, with the assist going to PK Subban. After scoring his first goal in ten games Pacioretty mimed taking the monkey off his back was quite amusing to see. A short time later the hero of the previous game attempted a soccer move when his stick was tied up and the goal was disallowed. This period featured many earth shattering, clean hits on both sides. At the end of the period the Lightning put the puck past Carey Price - however it was just after the period finished.

The third period started with some energy and Andrei Kostitsyn being his beast self this time taking the puck from behind the net and cruiising with the puck on a string and managing a nice shot that was stopped by Mathieu Garon. Most of the third was a good hittong game. The Habs did not sit back on their heels and there were some timely saves by Carey Price. In the last minute of play Max Pacioretty was hooked when taking a shot on an open net. The ensuing power play resulted in a goal by none other than Erik Cole with assists going to David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty.

It was the first time since mid December the Habs have won two in a row. Next up: the Halakian Blues.
