Blackhawks continue circus trip success with win vs Avs

The Blackhawks haven't had a lot of success versus the Avalanche in the past year, or in Denver. But they pulled out a decent 3-2 win tonight, which makes them 3-1-0 thus far on this year's circus trip.

Scoreless through nearly halfway through the second, Max Talbot opened the scoring for the Avs.

Joanthan Toews tied it up for Chicago a few minutes later on the power play, and then Andrew Shaw made it 2-1 Blackhawks on another power play just 2-1/2 minutes later.

Ryan O'Reilly made it a tie game with an EV goal 3:36 into the third. Bryan Bickell scored the go-ahead goal for Chicago with 5:17 remaining - this one Chicago's first EV goal of the night.

The Blackhawks filled the scoresheet in all the right ways on Wednesday night: won 62% of faceoffs, led SOG 45-29 (Marian Hossa led all players with 9), plus another 16 AB and 15 MS, and 8 takeaways.

It's refreshing to see the Blackhawks shooting the puck so much on power plays; they had 12 of their 45 SOG - and of course, 2 of their goals - on the power play. In past seasons, it had felt like the players were looking for the 'perfect' shot all too often; this year, they're clogging up the net again and again, and the shots are going in.

Rookie goalie Calvin Pickard had the loss for Colorado. Corey Crawford got the win for Chicago on his 12th consecutive start.

The Blackhawks head to California to face the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
