Helsinki Wrap Up : Carolina Hurricanes

Who stole the show this afternoon. That guy! Jeff Skinner wrapped up the series in Helsinki scoring the lone goal in shootouts. On top of that, he assisted on the only Carolina goal of the night, and undressed the Minnesota defense late in the game turning a nothing chance into something worth watching. With his ability to skate very well at his age, and his confidence with the puck, this 1st round pick is really starting to look promising to the club.

Yesterday's game was equally thrilling seeing as Brandon Sutter decided the focus was going to be on him. Stealing the show with 2 goals ( Game Winner ) to give the Hurricanes the win. Sutter should be able to take some of the offensive pressure off of Eric Staal. Staal faces the task of producing points without the help of Ray Whitney, since being shipped over to Phoenix. It will take some adjusting from coach Paul Maurice before finding a suitable winger for the Captain. Staal leaves Helsinki with a bit of a slow start (0 Pts 10 SOG 6 PIMS)

Cam Ward put a few critics to rest, walking out of Helsinki with an impressive 2 Wins 1.92 GAA and .944 S% . Regardless of his stats last year, I've never once doubted Ward's ability between the pipes. He's always ready to play and has some of the quickest pads in the league.

Very excited to see where this season takes us. So far it seems the rookies are lighting up the highlight reels around the league.

Super impressed with the Canes. The kids are looking good, Ward is looking good. Would love it if they can keep it up, maybe get a little deeper through trade and try to compete for a playoff spot. They're Edmonton-East as far as I'm concerned, with a lot more underrated players.

Yeah man, I watched every game last year, through thick and thin, and it really came down to injuries. Ward is the backbone of the team. If they can pick up some depth on the third/fourth line they'll be more of a complete team. If they flop (which I doubt) then they have a few vets to throw around at deadline. Pick up some picks or some prospects. Always a fun team to watch I find.
