Hurricane Relief - Jeff Skinner Signs

The wait is over, the deal is done. Jeff Skinner is officially a Carolina Hurricane. They did however take their sweet time in dealing with this kid. Despite the 'Canes slow and uneventful summer, this deal brings something to Carolina fans that has been lacking the past few years. Young talent.

Skinner enjoyed two years in the OHL playing for the Kitchener Rangers. In his rookie year, he walked away with 27 goals, 24 assists and 34 PIMS in 63 games. In his , what looks to be , final year with the Rangers he nearly doubled his stats. Finishing the season with 50 goals, 40 assists and 72 PIMS in 64 games. On top of his over-achieving 2nd season, he added 20 goals in 20 games in the OHL post season adding another 13 assists, to give him a total of 33 points in 20 games.

This kid has something the development staff in Carolina hasn't seen since they drafted Eric Staal back in 2003. Skinner has real potential with this organization. His goal scoring capabilities have been compared to Taylor Hall, his puck moving skills to Sidney Crosby and his work ethic is as rock solid as it comes. With a background in figure skating, the 'Canes development staff should have no trouble turning this kid out to be a top 6 in no time.

From the looks of things, the 'Canes are going to start the regular season with Skinner on the roster. After looking at their options it seems it's less risky than I originally thought. He's got the pre-season to answer some questions, and in addition, another nine regular season games before its too late for him to return to the OHL without losing a year of his contract. (3 year entry level)

Tonight marks the first pre-season game for the 'Canes. Heres what the line-ups look like.
(unfortunately the game is not being televised)

LaRose – Skinner – Dwyer
Bowman – Nash – Ruutu
O’Sullivan – Dalpe – Kostopoulos
Boychuk – Matsumoto – Samson

Gleason – Sanguinetti
McBain – Babchuk
Borer – Harrison
Ward
Pogge

Great fit, team needs all the versatility it can get right now. Fingers crossed the kid lives up to the hype.

Man, other than skinner and a couple of the d-men, that line-up does nothing for me lol.

But Skinner is definitely a step in the right direction. Welcome to the team bro, really happy to have you on board.

Thanks George, Excited to be here.
As far as the 'Canes roster goes. Take a look back at 2006, not that different. I'd like to see what Maurice can do with a healthy roster. Last year was a wash IMO.

Well, I hope you mean the line-up that will start in October and not the one that will start tonight lol. I think if the Canes hope to make the playoffs they need a piece or two both up front and on defense. Despite the fact that we all know they'll work hard and make it difficult, I'm really not sure that's enough to get past the logjam in the east. But it's definitely not that bad. I was talking about tonight's line-up lol.

LOL. ahhh, yeah, nothing of interest tonight. I can agree with that. Although seeing Ward play is always exciting.

More of a question of Ward staying healthy. All the Canes win streaks where between Ward injuries lol.
