Game 1 : Canadiens @ Maple Leafs

It's TIME!

Original Six showdown in Leafs Town tonight.  Welcome back everyone! IT'S HOCKEY SEASON!

The Montreal Canadiens are in enemy territory tonight, opening their season in Toronto. This will be the first of six meetings between the two rivals and tonight's game will put all of the off season banter between fans to rest.  Habs, Leafs, TCL hockey!

After another let down season in Toronto you can be sure that the Leafs have something to prove in the eastern conference.  Will this be the year they wake up and make the post season?  Hard to tell really.  With off season additions such as Tim Connolly, John-Michael Liles and Cody Franson, it would be hard to imagine they could get any worse.

The Montreal Canadiens tweeked their offense this summer with the addition of Erik Cole.  A big bodied forward who can keep up with the speedy offense that Montreal has developed over the past few seasons.  On the blueline the Habs added newcomer Alexie Yemelin from the KHL.  Yemelin looks to be the Habs 7th defender going into tonight's game.

Both teams have a few regulars on the injury list.  The Leafs are without Nazem Kadri to start the season.  He's out with an knee injury.  Tim Connolly is on injured reserve and won't play tonight, and Clarke MacArthur will be serving the first half of a two-game suspension courtesy of the Shanhammer.  As for the Canadiens, they will be playing without (surprise surprise) Andrei Markov.  He has re-injured his knee during off season workouts and has no timeline for return.  Habs are also without centers Ryan White and Lars Eller.

Carey Price and James Reimer get the call in nets.  Both goalies have a reputation to live up based on their performances last year.  Check twitter tomorrow to see which of the two gets ripped apart.

This year we will try something different for my previews.  Of course I will keep the reader upto date on the night's game but I will also add my two cents at the end of each blog.  I'll be posting comments I've seen on Twitter and Facebook and of course rip the players and teams that drive me insane.  I'll do my best to keep it sophisticated.

Puck drop is at 7:00pm and the game is being aired on CBC and RDS.

Be sure to check out the Live Chat for tonight's game:

Thanks Prax. I have a good feeling about this season. Both on the ice and the site.
