An NHL All-Star Game Mock Draft

One of the exciting things about the NHL All-Star Game, and perhaps, it's uniqueness so to say is the fact it touches back on our childhood.

Remember the days of playing pick-up hockey, or sports for that matter. You throw your sticks into the circle and someone would randomly toss a stick to each side and that would be the team you played for that day.

Well, unfortunately there will be no sticks in the ring but the sentiment is still there. Tonight at 8 PM, the NHL will hold it's second All-Star Game under the new formula: a draft-style that enables two captains to choose which all-stars they want on their squad.

The All-Star Game is meant to be fun, not competitive like MLB's has become to decide home field advantage in the World Series, or blah and boring as the NBA and NFL have become the past decade.

It allows for players to play with guys never dreamt they would play with for one night, let alone guys they rarely ever face.

Imagine Daniel Sedin stealing a puck from his brother Henrik, or Claude Giroux receiving an outlet pass from Zdeno Chara. Or better yet, Jimmie Howard stoning Pavel Datsyuk on a breakaway.

And it can be fun for the fans too.

Last year, myself and a good friend of mine, Dan MacNeal of Crimespree Hockey, put together our own mock draft for a different website we were apart of. It was a lot of fun and the two of us decided to collaborate on the efforts once again.

So with myself taking Team Daniel Alfredsson with Henrik Lundqvist as my alternate captain, Dan got the first pick as Team Chara and alternate Joffrey Lupul.

As the rules stated, all goaltenders must be drafted by the 10th round and all defensemen by the 15th. Teams will pick in an alternating order in contrast to a snake draft.

Here are our two rosters. Who do you think lucked out in this year's Mock Draft?
