Flyers Recall Oliver Lauridsen

The Flyers have recalled rookie defenseman Oliver Lauridsen this morning according to Diana Nearhos of the Post-Star.

In a move anticipating the loss of another defenseman, the Flyers recalled the 6'6", 220-pound stay-at-home blue liner. Braydon Coburn was injured in yesterday's 4-3 loss and may miss some time with this move.

During rookie camp this past summer, TCL friend Dan MacNeal wrote up a couple sentences on what he saw from Lauridsen during camp:

Defenseman Oliver Lauridsen, a hulking defenseman, returned this year, and while he showed some skating skills, he still needs work puckhandling.  However, he dominated forwards in the crease drills, showing his strength.

Lauridsen isn't know for his scoring touch. He has one goal and five assists in 53 games with the Phantoms this year.

Lauridsen was drafted with the 196th overall draft pick out of St. Cloud St. in the 2009 draft. He was signed to an entry-level contract with the Flyers on March 2011.

Erik Gustafsson, Lauridsen's teammate in Adirondack, said that he's a similar player to Nicklas Grossmann, including the important aspect of blocking shots.

Expect some new later today on Coburn's injury.
