Flyers Trade Tye McGinn; Sign D Nick Schultz
The Flyers made a pair of moves Wednesday, trading a forward and signing a defenseman.
The Flyers shipped forward Tye McGinn to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2015 third round pick. They signed free agent defenseman Nick Schultz to a one-year, $1.25 million deal.
Last season, McGinn, 23, played in 18 games. He had four goals, one assist and four PIM. He has seven goals and 10 points in 36 career games.
The Flyers drafted McGinn in the fourth round (119th overall) in the 2010 draft.
Schultz played 69 games with two teams last season. In 60 games with the Edmonton Oilers, Schultz had four assists, 24 PIM and was a negative-11. In nine games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, he had one assist, four PIM and was a minus-2.
Schultz was selected 33rd overall in the 2000 draft by Minnesota.
Schultz, 31, will provide depth on the blue line. He will likely be the seventh defenseman.
The Flyers also signed forward Andrew Gordon to a one-year, two-way contract on Tuesday.
Gordon, 28, recorded 23 goals and 34 assists for 57 points with the St. John's Icecaps, Winnipeg's affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Earlier in the day, the Flyers re-signed forward Jason Akeson to a one-year, two-way contract.
