Stanley Cup Finals: TCL Flyers Makes Its Last Picks of the Year

Stanley Cup Finals

No. 4 Boston Bruins vs No. 1 Chicago Blackhawks

I think this time I’m going to be serious in my post. It’s not because I all-of-a-sudden want to be mature again, but it’s mainly because I’ve run out of funny things to say during the first three rounds.

Neither team representing their Conference is something to joke about this time around. The Bruins and Blackhawks have both won the Cup within the last three years, and were among the preseason favorites to win the Cup this shortened season.

Chicago also boasts the honor of being the President’s Trophy winner. But with that honor comes pressure.

In the last decade, only the 2007-08 Red Wings won the Stanley Cup as the President’s Trophy winner. Three of the last four winners have lost in the first round, and the 2010-11 Canucks lost the Cup to the Bruins.

It’s going to be an interesting Finals for sure. Two perennial powers, two fervent fan bases and two hot goalies will clash in a big city Finals showdown.

How they got here: After being taken to the limit by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins shutdown the Rangers in five games before sweeping the top-seeded Penguins in the Conference Finals. In the West, the Blackhawks dominated the Wild in the first round, only to come back to beat the Red Wings in seven before bouncing the reigning champion Kings in five games.

Why Boston will win: The Bruins are an incredibly physical team. Tuukka Rask has been a wall in the net, allowing only two goals to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. If they impose their physical will on the Hawks much like they did to the Penguins, they will win this series.

Why Chicago will win: The Blackhawks suffered only one hiccup in the second round. Other than that, they have been consistently the best team in all of hockey. If they can find an answer to the Bruins nasty play, find some magic from grinder Bryan Bickell and Corey Crawford can match Rask’s play in net then they will be hoisting the Cup again.

TCL Picks: John (Bruins in 6), Dan (Hawks in 7), Alicia (Hawks in 6), Chris (Bruins in 7), Jordan (Bruins in 6), Mark (Hawks in 7).
