Holy Roli What a Goalie

The Tampa Bay Lightning skated away with a 2-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Dwayne Roloson stopped 26 shots for his 3rd shutout in ten games with the Bolts and also his 26th career shutout. Tampa started the game with the foot on the accelerator scoring two goals from Simon Gagne and Teddy Purcell. Victor Hedman had a particularly strong game, joining the rush on several occasions and set up Gagne's 9th of the year five minutes in. Teddy Purcell then scored on a very similar play, driving hard to the net to convert Brett Clark's feed 12 minutes in. Tampa outshot the Leafs 17-4 in the first.

The second period brought a different Leafs team, the one that scratched and clawed its way back into games many times. But Roloson was simply unbeatable tonight. He turned away 13 shots in the second compared to the Lightning's four. In an exciting third period, he stopped the final nine Leafs shots he faced for the donut. Tampa heads into the All Star break at 31-15-5, good for second in the Eastern Conference. Compare that to last year when the Bolts were already out of the playoff picture, and you can see this is a team that is for real.

Always hilarious when the leafs lose, even funnier when they lose by shutout. Smile

the leafs really did pick it up once they hit the second, but Tampa really clogged up the middle of the ice. it wasn;t for lack of effort for TO, just a horrible start
