Kip's Piks: Conference Quarterfinals
It's that time of year. The playoffs are here and everyone has their predictions. Like I said earlier, my dog Kip is going head to head with me picking the winners in the playoffs.
Basically, we had team logo tokens and placed them on the ground with some little bacon treats that he likes. Whichever one he ate first is the team he picked. I made my picks first. Here is the video of Kip making his West and East picks:
Notice that he has a bit of a pattern with both Conferences; in one conference he chose the left side all the time and the other the right side. There's a method to his madness I guess.
So now to compare my picks to Kip's:
VANCOUVER vs CHICAGO
Kyle's Pick: Chicago in 7. I just have a feeling Chicago can handle Vancouver for a third time in a row.
Kip's Pick: Chicago
SAN JOSE vs LOS ANGELES
Kyle's Pick: Los Angeles in 7. I never really make an upset pick, and there always is one in the first round. This one is most likely in my mind.
Kip's Pick: San Jose
DETROIT vs PHOENIX
Kyle's Pick: Detroit in 7. I really hope Jimmy Howard can handle himself. The Wings have superior depth, but Phoenix is also a dangerous dark horse team.
Kip's Pick: Phoenix
ANAHEIM vs NASHVILLE
Kyle's Pick: Anaheim in 5. The fact that Dan Ellis is starting scares me, but the line of Perry-Getzlaf-Ryan is just scary. Plus Selanne is on fire, so might as well go with who's hot.
Kip's pick: Anaheim
WASHINGTON vs NEW YORK
Kyle's Pick: Washington in 6. This may be the year the Caps don't blow it. King Henrik will steal a few though.
Kip's Pick: New York
PHILADELPHIA vs BUFFALO
Kyle's Pick: Philadelphia in 7. Buffalo is under the radar and have been playing great lately. Combined with Philly's cold streak the Sabres will make it interesting.
Kip's Pick: Buffalo
BOSTON vs MONTREAL
Kyle's Pick: Boston in 6. I can't see Montreal beating a stacked Bruins team.
Kip's Pick: Boston
PITTSBURGH vs TAMPA BAY
Kyle's Pick: Tampa Bay in 7. Even without Crosby and Malkin, Pittsburgh has been great. Don't count out Stamkos, St. Louis and Lecavalier though.
Kip's Pick: Tampa Bay
So the basic rules for our head to head matchup is that you get one point per win. It doesn't matter if your team loses the round. This way its a tighter race and the Finals will factor in. At the end of each round I will update the points and let everyone know who is smarter when it comes to hockey; a human or a dog.
Thanks to my brother Randy for filming and showing everyone that yes, you can talk to your dog like it's a baby.
