Blackhawks at Stars: Game Preview

CHI@DAL- Game Preview

7:00pm CST

The Chicago Blackhawks are back on track and ready to perform tonight in Dallas against the Stars for the second time this season.

The Hawks prevented a three game skid on Thursday night, taking the shootout win over the stellar looking Blue Jackets 2-1 to end the Chicago/Columbus series.

The Blackhawks (22-2-3) brought up big Jimmy Hayes to fill the 2nd line spot left empty by Patrick Sharp and his shoulder injurt that will have him off the ice another 2-3 weeks. Hayes filled the position well, but more importantly the solid 3rd and 4th lines were restored to early season form and Johnny Oduya notched his first goal of the season.

There are now only four skaters on the Blackhawks roster without a goal credit: Brandon Bollig, Jamal Mayers, Michal Rozsival and Jimmy Hayes.

The Blackhawks won their last matchup against Dallas early in the season 3-2 in OT.

The Stars were the first to score back in January with a short-handed goal and had the Hawks scrambing up from a 2-0 deficit in the 2nd period.  Powerplay goals from Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews sent this game to overtime where that sick no look wrap around pass Kane to Hossa gave Chicago the final PPG to win the game.

The Stars (12-11-3), now on a three game losing streak have been outscored 8-2 and are looking to redeem themselves at home tonight against the Hawks.

It's a good night for the Stars to strike hard, with the Hawks still fresh off their only two regulation losses of the season, any kinks in the Chicago defense that have yet to be smoothed out are perfect opportunities for this capable Stars team to expolit and score.

Jaromir Jagr and Loui Eriksson lead the Stars in goals and points, though Jagr has 4 goals in the last 5 games, and Eriksson has only 1 goal in the last 5.

Tonight will surely be a goalie matchup with two stong netminders between the posts, Dallas' Kari Lehtonen has been holding his own with a .926 Sv% that pairs up well with Chicago's Corey Crawford with a .928 Sv%.

The biggest challenge for the Hawks as of late has been keeping up with their penalty killing prowess.  Having allowed 6 PPGs in the last 13 PKs over only 3 games the once dominant penalty killing powerhouse fell from an 89.0 PK% to 83.7%.

Injury Report: CHI- Patrick Sharp (shoulder sprain) out 2-3 weeks. DAL- Ryan Garbut (hand) is questionable, and Aaron Rome is day-to-day (foot).
