Blackhawks prepare for the Carolina Hurricanes

The Blackhawks will travel to Carolina to once again face an Eastern Conference team that they have not seen since 2011. They will also be facing a team that would love nothing better than to say they beat the champs.

The Carolina Hurricanes are coming into the contest with a 2-2-2 record and fresh off of back to back losses from the sticks of the LA Kings and most recently the Phoenix Coyotes.

During the Phoenix game starting goalie Anton Khudobin had to leave the game due to a lower body injury on a fluke play when he left his net to play a puck and seemed to twist awkwardly.  Cam Ward will no doubt be in net for the Canes.  For the Hawks don’t be surprised to see Nikolai Khabibulin in the Hawks cage.

The Hawks on the other hand are coming off of back to back New York wins against the Islanders and the Sabres. The Blackhawks are also looking for their first road win of the year as the only other road game so far was a closing moments loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Who has been hot lately for the Hawks in finding the oppositions net is the big guns Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews and for Carolina Jeff Skinner and Nathan Gerbe.

Carolina is a quick, skilled team so look for a very face paced game with possible odd man rushes. This is something the Blackhawks have been giving up too many of lately to the opposition and need to watch. The Hawks will need to be sharp with their transition game and defensive positioning through the neutral zone.

Look out also for back checking and takeaways from both teams. The Canes are  currently ranked second in the league behind only the Hawks.

What to look for:

·        Look for a lot of different line combinations to continue from the Blackhawks.

·        Carolina so far has not had much success on the power play while the Blackhawks look to continue their power play success.

·        The Hurricanes have been having their issues in the face off dots so it is good opportunity for the Hawks to maintain and gain puck possession.

There are no injuries for the Blackhawks and for Carolina goalie Khudobin has been placed on IR

Hawks can be seen on CSN TV in Chicago or WGN Radio 720 Chicago; Carolina FS-CR TV or can be heard on radio 99.9FM in Carolina. Start time is at 6:00 pm CT.
