Hawks beat Senators 2-1

The Blackhawks came into the game on the second of back to back games with that being the case a new goaltender Scott Darling was manning the Chicago nets. Darling is an Illinois native and a big goalie at 6’6”. He stands tall and he did in the Blackhawks net as well.

After having lost two games in row the Hawks were looking to get back to the winning track. All the scoring in the game came in the middle period thanks to spectacular goaltending by Scott Darling who made his NHL debut in front of his hometown crowd.

Jonathan Toews started the scoring on a wrap around that beat Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson as he was slow to go from post to post. The goal was significant as well due to Patrick Kane getting an assist which was his 500th career NHL point. Congratulations Kaner here is to your next 500 points.

The Toews goal was the first 2nd period goal of the year.

Andrew Shaw was sent away on a breakaway with a great pass from Brent Seabrook but was hauled down and was awarded a penalty shot. Unfortunately Shaw missed an the Hawks score remained 1-0.

On a referee mishap in more ways than one when a referee got in the way and the puck bounced fortuitously to the Senators on a three on one. The referees also missed on this same play the Senators had too many men on the ice because they were supposed to be on the penalty kill. So the Hawks yielded a shorthanded goal that tied the game at one a pieceby Milan Michalek.

Then the Hawks did some damage on their own power play when Mr.Clutch Brent Seabrook blasted on through a Bryan Bickell screen past the Ottawa goalie for the game winning goal. Brad Richards and Marian Hossa got the assists on the goal.

Scott Darling however was the story with his 32 saves on 33 shots in his first Blackhawks regular season appearance.  The game was also Hockey Fights Cancer Night so the players wore special jerseys in pre-game warm-ups that will be auctioned with proceeds go to charity so check out the Blackhawks website for items.

The Hawks next face the Anaheim Ducks at the United Center on Tuesday.
