Hawks fall to Oilers 5-2

The Hawks came into this game on the second of back to back games and it looked like as the game wore on the fatigue factor caught up with the team.

The Hawks actually opened up the scoring with a two on one play with Jonathan Toews shooting the puck and a rebound going conveniently right to Brandon Saad who just tapped it past Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens.

Saad had the only other Hawks goal in the second period with a similar play to his earlier goal with another two on one with this time with Marian Hossa.  Unfortunately the Oilers were able to muster goals from Pouliot, Roy, Yakupov and an empty netter by Taylor Hall.

Antti Raanta was in net for the Hawks and has not played in awhile and it showed. Two of the goals should not have happened had the puck been covered and frozen by the netminder.  Rust was definitely a factor. Raanta has been superb in the past it just was not his best game on this night.

Another young Finnish player inserted into the line-up Teuvo Teravainen was very noticeable especially in the second period. He could have easily had three assists if his team mates could sunk his passes which are all world. The kid has a knack for playmaking and finding open ice and open team mates.

The Hawks lost this game due to too many turnovers and not generating enough shots on the opposing goalie and again there was no net front presence.

Give the Oilers credit this is a different team than the beginning of the season and got some revenge from the last time the Hawks thumped them.  The Hawks need to guard against the same scenario on Sunday when they face the Wild who will be looking for revenge themselves.

Three Stars of the game:

1.    D. Roy

2.    N. Yakupov

3.    B. Saad
