Hawks hang on to win 2-1 over Calgary Flames

The Hawks came in looking to rebound off of their loss in New York vs the Islander and bounce back they did. Most importantly they worked hard to beat a very hard working team and can take pride in their efforts and skate away with a solid team win.

Coming in the Hawks had to play within less than 24 hrs to a rested Calgary Flames team but somehow the Hawks were able to muster up the energy to put together a win.

The game also so Tim Erixon make his debut in a Blackhawks jersey and played on the third defensive pairing with Rozsival. Erixon had a solid game for his first and looked pretty comfortable on the backend. Welcome to Chicago and good luck with the Hawks.

The game saw Antti Raanta getting the call in the Blackhawks net while Jonas Hiller got the call for the Calgary Flames. Both goalies were very good as each held the other team scoreless in the first period of the game.

The scoring did not happen til the second period and was actually opened up by the Flames when Jiri Hudler was able to finally beat Raanta and the Hawks defense as he came in as a trailer in the high slot and was able to beat the Hawks goalie glove side to put the Flames up 1-0.

The Hawks were also able to get the power play going just .09 seconds into the power play with a beautiful bang bang play from Kane to Toews to a back door Patrick Sharp that was able to beat Hiller high glove side. The second period ended tied 1-1.

The third period saw the Hawks pretty much clamp down defensively and it took a mistake by the Flames to put the Hawks up for good. Johnny Gaudreau lost his edge at the Hawks blue line and that sent Jonathan Toews and Brandon Saad on a two on zero to the races. Toews feed a pass to a streaking Saad who again beat Hiller high glove side to put the Hawks up 2-1 which is how the game ended.

The Hawks get one more game at the UC on Tuesday facing the Minnesota Wild but with the win against the Flames the Hawks once again reclaim the top spot in the Central division. A place the coaches, players and fans like seeing the Blackhawks in.
