Leafs Steal a Point Versus the Avalanche

On a night in which the Leafs couldn't string together two consecutive passes they still managed to earn a valuable point losing in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche. Just over a minute into the extra frame David Jones knocked in his fourth goal to give the Avs the 3-2 victory. Toronto was sloppy from the opening moment of the game, and if the Avalanche had been able to hit the net tonight they would have won this game easily.

After a scoreless first period both Jean Sebastian Giguere and James Reimer were guilty of some weak goaltending in the second. Giguere was caught leaning the wrong way, and in all too familiar moment he allowed a Phil Kessel wrister from the point to elude him and find the back of the net. Not to be outdone Reimer had two pucks go right through him. The first was by Daniel Winnick on a seemingly harmless two on two, and Milan Hejduk scored a power play goal on a shot that Reimer would stop 99 times out of 100.

The Leafs were constantly out of position on the night, and the defense had a very difficult time on the evening. MIke Komisarek, Luke Schenn and Cody Franson (who left Jones wide open in front of the net in overtime) were glaringly out of position for most of the night. Franson has been very poor in his first two games of the season. Hopefully it's just nerves and rust, and not the curse of the blue and white #4 jersey.

The Leafs power play continued to struggle going 0-4. tTe Leafs offense seemed stagnant and disorganized all game prompting Ron Wilson to juggle the lines throughout the third.  Nikolai Kulemin scored the game tying goal late in the third off of a rebound that no NHL goalie should allow.

Men of the Match

Leafs: Joffrey Lupul - The Leaf winger has been flying through the first four games of the season. Although he wasn't on the score sheet tonight, Lupul caused countless turnovers and his size and speed was on display throughout the night.

Avalanche: Daniel Winnick - Scored the first Avs goal of the night, and was a major pain for the Leafs defense tonight. Winnick was also had an effective night on the penalty kill for the Avs.

Millenism of the Night

"Second overall pick Gabriel Landesberg uh derg, really gets nailed there".

Next Game

The Leafs will host Nik Antropov and the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday night at the Air Canada Centre.
