Titans Loss Dims Playoff Hopes

The Titans small playoff hopes dimmed further as they fell to Elmira 6-3 Sunday afternoon.

The Titans opened the scoring early as Andrew Johnston buried the puck on a netmouth scramble in front. Off the ensuing faceoff, the Titans drew a penalty to Jordon Southorn for roughing giving them a chance to go up 2-0 early and bury the game.

However, Andrew Rowe tied it one minute later as he scored short handed on a breakaway.

Rowe gave the Jackals a 2-1 lead 2:32 later when he beat Cal Heeter for his second goal of the afternoon.

Shane Harper tied the game just 10 seconds into the second period as he deflected an Eric Baier slapshot past Max Clermont. But 83 seconds later, Elmira would take the lead back as Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel would fire a wrist shot past Heeter.

Late in the period Stephen Schultz scored his ECHL leading 18th powerplay goal to tie up. The Titans would then fall apart in the third period as former Titan Jordan Pietrus would score a pair of goals and Rob Bellamy would add an empty netter.

The Titans slim playoff hopes seemed doused.

“It’s frustrating” Schultz said after the game.

Coach Vince Willams talked more about the situation as a whole.

"We just have to go out and play. For some guys, it's an opportunity. There's always people watching. We want to go out, we want to play, we want to win,” he said.
