Markov's Injury
The Montreal Canadiens received some bad news in their series opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. A hit by Matt Cooke near the corner of the Habs end zone on defenseman Andrei Markov forced him out of the game. According to early reports on behalf of the Canadiens, Markov suffered an "undisclosed lower body injury", and judging by the replay of the hit, it's likely his right knee.
Jacques Martin has since reported that Markov will undergo further examination and a re-evaluation tomorrow morning to determine the severity of the injury.
Meanwhile, Jaroslav Spacek will also undergo some medical tests tomorrow as he believes he could return as early as Sunday for Game 2 of the series. This would be a significant addition to the Habs lineup, especially if Markov should miss some serious time. PK Subban has been leading the charge for the Habs over the last two games becoming a bit of a one man wrecking crew, should Spacek be re-instilled into the lineup would ease the pressure on the rookie and allow him to focus on his offensive game.
