Spengler Cup Recap: Team Canada vs. HC Davos (December 28, 2010)

After defeating Spartak Moscow the other day, Team Canada set their sights on knocking off the host squad HC Davos.

Very early in the game, HC Davos strikes first on a goal by Sandro Rizzi. Some good action during the first period but no further scoring occurs. Onto the second period, where early on, Team Canada scores the equalizer. Goal scored by Yanick Lehoux. But moments later, HC Davos gets the lead again when Peter Guggisberg fires it off to Petr Taticek and makes it 2-1. HC Davos makes it 3-1 midway through the period when Jaroslav Bednar beats Jeff Deslauriers, catching him in the wrong corner. Some penalty trouble by both teams dominate the remainder of the period. But Travis Roche manages to find an open spot and get one in, closing the gap to within one. Second period ends with Davos leading Canada 3-2. No further scoring would take place beyond the second, although there were some minor penalties called. Game ends with a Davos 3-2 victory over Canada, sending Canada to a quarterfinal date with Sparta Prague while Davos earns a bye to the semifinal.
