Up and Down week for team and the players
The Griffins had an up and down week with a win and a loss to San Antonio and a loss then a win against the Oklahoma City Barons. Along with the team, players are up and down with the Wings due to numerous injuries. Ty Conklin and Jordan Pearce were called up to the Red Wings Due to Howard and MacDonald’s injuries, Doug Janik was back from the Wings and in the lineup for the loss on Thursday to San Antonio. Brendan Smith was reassigned Saturday night to the Griffins but he had flight problems and could not make the game for Sunday. With Howard still out and MacDonald possibly out for the season the Griffs will be relying on Thomas McCollum and rookie Ramis Sadikov in net to finish the regular season.
Currently 3 players are out on injury. Fabian Brunnstrom was in an altercation in Saturday’s game and has not been back since. Not clear on injury. Trevor Parkes injured his shoulder a few weeks ago and is still in therapy. Mitch Callahan is out with a concussion after an altercation in Thursday’s game against San Antonio. He is expected to be back in the lineup sometime this week.
The Griffins called up Bryan Rufenach, Gleason Fournier and Andrej Nestrasil from the Toledo Walleye to fill in the holes for the injuries and call ups. Also called up was first rounder Riley Sheahan. The youngens are skating well and getting chances at the net. Watching the kids on the ice, playing hard and trying to hold a spot in the big leagues is nice to see.
The Griffins finished out the week with the win against the Barons. The boys played hard and made every shot count. Anderrson, Minard, Pare and Conner all scored to win the game 4-1. McCollum had a career high 43 saves and kept the team alive. The team seems to play better without much of a break between games. We will see what happens this weekend.
A wild long weekend ahead, with a game against the Checkers on Friday and then another meeting with the Barons on Saturday. They finish off the weekend with a trip over to Toronto on Sunday to face the division leading Marlies.
The Boys are still a way out from earning a playoff spot this year and will have some tough games ahead of them. We look forward to seeing a couple good home games this weekend.
