Avs-Wild Preview: Payback time!
Goalie Craig Anderson needs to find his game from last year
Payback for a loss at home
Well the Avs faceoff against Minnesota tonight in St. Paul. Just last week the Avs lost 4-3 at home to the Wild after a super performance from Andrew Brunette and Jose Theodore. It seems anytime there is a player who spent time in an Avs uniform, they have an amazing game against us (see Radim Vrbata last gmae who had a goal and an assist). Last game Bruno ended up with 2 goals and Theo played a great game that helped the Wild come away wit the win.
Now the Avs have a chance for revenge and a chance to get back into the playoff races. Currently the Avs are 5 points out of 8th place and 3 behind Minnesota. Every game is huge with the conference being so close in points with only 8 points separating 4th place and 14th place. It would only take a decent hot streak for any of the teams to move up in the standings and the Avs definitely need one. The next couple of games could also determine whether the Avs will be sellers or buyers at the deadline coming up. My bet is buyers as I have rarely seen the Avs not make some good moves at the deadline.
The big key for tonight's match up will be goaltending. Craig Anderson played decent against Phoenix, but couldn't keep the team in the entire night. He needs to find a more consistent form of play if the team will succeed. Finally, the offense has been held scoreless for 6 straight periods coming into tonight and they need to find their scoring again. They always say that once you get one, the rest come in bunches. Let's hope the Avs score quick if they want to win tonight
Forsberg ended up heading to Canada to work on Visa issues and hasn't been able to meet up with the team yet. This has ruled Forsberg out for tonight's game and it looks like he will debut Friday in Columbus. Hopefully the Avs can gain momentum going into Friday with a win tonight. The anticipation to see how Foppa does is getting higher and higher, so hopefully Friday is the day.
