Duchene the All-Star helps the Avs to a win!

Duchene's 3 point night leads the Avs to victory and secured a place int he All-Star game

All I have to say is Matt Duchene is growing up and could become one of the elite players in the NHL. Duchene put in an amazing preformance that would have any Islanders or Lightining fan questioning if they made the wrong pick in 2009's draft. Duchene got another 2 goal night and ended with 3 goals and a +3 rating. He has been one of the only consistent players in the Avalanche's lineup the whole season. He has especially been amazing since the aquisition of Thomas Fleischmann from the Caps. Fleischmann had 3 assists in the game including assisting on both Duchene goals.

Peter Budaj was in nets for the Avs and allowed more than 3 goals yet again. But somehow the Avs snuck away with the win after letting the Red Wings back into a game that they led 4-2 after the first period. Budaj had a good first period I thought, but just wasn't able to shut the door on Detroit. Budaj and the defense nearly let the Red Wings come back, and the ofense did little to help the rest of the game. Joey MacDonald only allowed one goal in relief of Jimmy Howard who allowed 4 goals in the first period. We will see who starts Saturday in Chicago, but bets can go to Anderson back between the pipes.

Back to Duchene, who today was officially named to the NHL All-Star game as the only Avalanche representative (Kevin Shattenkirk is going for the rookie game). The kid has one of the biggest hearts I have ever seen and you can tell he enjoys playing the sport so much. His two goals tonight were just great efforts and really showed that he wanted to win. It also seems that Duchene picks his game up against the Red Wings, scoring two goals last time the two played as well, and he scored his first NHL goal against Detroit last season. His first goal last night saw Duchene pick up the puck in the neuteral zone and skate hard through the wing and fire it 5 hole on Howard. The second goal, somewhat like the first, saw Duchene pick up the puck skating hard through the neuteral zone and create a two on one with Thomas Fleischmann. Following a great give and go with Fleischmann Duchene buried into a wide open net. Both goals just showed his hard work and determination to help his team out as much as he could.

The best part about the kid was how upset he was that he didn't get a hat trick after getting a two goal night again. Duchene has several two goal games but can never seem to find the net a third time. I can't wait to see what happens when he finally does get that third goal.

Duchene an All-Star!
Well the teams are out and Matt Duchene in his second year has made the NHL All-Star game for the first time in his career. I can't wait to watch Matt during the skills competition as well as during the game. Mark my words he will at least have a goal during the game. Oh and does it seem odd that neither Hedman or Tavares made the team? Thank you from me and every single Avs fan goes to both Tampa and New York for not taking Matt! Congrats from me to Matty D!

Absolutely love Duchene. Definitely deserves to be an All-Star this year.

He was a slightly less than point per game player out of the gate, but he's been absolutely ridiculous since November.

Everyone scoffed when the Islanders were entertaining the idea of possibly taking Duchene instead of Tavares. In hindsight, they should have.
