Dutch is Clutch and the Avs win!
Well it's a good night in Avs country as the Avs broke out of their slump and finally won. The team absolutely dominated the Thrashers from beginning to end. Their up tempo style lead by Matt Duchene and Greg Mauldin was to much for the Thrash. The team came out firing and if it wasn't for an amazing performance from Pavlec this game would have been a blowout. Hats off to Pavlec, this guy doesn't get much credit as a great goaltender, but I feel like he is playing like one of the best right now (besides Thomas who is playing like a freak). From start to finish though this was Duchene's game. He worked so hard out there and battled every time he was on the ice. He ended the game with two assists and a post shot, but he was the game changer for the team tonight. If anyone hasn't seen the game, make sure to watch the highlight of Hejduk's goal in the third period. Duchene does an unbelievable job on the puck and then Fleischmann makes a perfect pass for Duke to tap it in. Great goal and the line is clicking, let's just hope the groin pull that forced Duke out in the third isn't serious.
Andy started off shaky but was unbelievable in the third to keep the lead the Avs got early on. I feel like he is still shaking off some rust from being out so long, but will be back to his old shot stopping self. I feel way more comfortable watching the games when Andy plays compared to Budaj. Andy is way more confident, and I feel the team plays better as a result.
Lastly I would like to compliment Greg Mauldin for his short handed goal tonight. Mauldin had the play of the night getting the puck through two players and making a great move on Pavlec that left him out to dry. I really like the way Mauldin plays most of the time and you have to think he does it because he never thought he would get his chance at the big leagues. Well for the most part he is making the most of his chance.
Now the Avs have yet another back to back where they will play the struggling Washington Caps tomorrow night in D.C. I feel like the Caps are a sleeping giant and would expect it to be a hard game. Also it will be the homecoming for Fleischmann and the return of Scott Hannan against the Avs. Hopefully the Avs can pull another win and head home with a decent point total from the road trip.
