Kings Battle For Fourth Seed

Preview:  Tonight is the Mullet Game for the Kings (25-14-5; 55 points): business in the front; party in the back. Vancouver’s 2-1 SO win last night over Detroit launches the Kings into the playoffs. The question now is where do they land and who will they face. Tonight’s game (along with the two against the Wild and one against the Red Wings) will determine their seed as they most likely battle the Sharks for home-ice advantage between the four and five seeds.

Los Angeles still has a lot of business in front of them but fans should celebrate the playoff berth. The opening two weeks of the season saw some awful hockey, inconsistent play by Jonathan Quick, and – at a point – the least successful power play unit in the league. There’s a lot to look forward to for the Kings and last year proved that seeds are meaningless.

The visiting Stars (22-19-3) still have playoff hopes making tonight’s game crucial for them. The Kings outstanding home record of 17-4-1 (making a four seed even more important) has been massacred by the Stars who have contributed to two of the tallies in the loss column. This will be the final game between the two teams with the Stars winning three of the four contests.

Matt Greene played his first game of the season Friday night. Greene along with Drew Doughty, Jake Muzzin, newly acquired Robyn Reghr, and Slava Voynov look to stop a Dallas offensive attack though inconsistent is capable of breaking games open behind Jaime Benn and Ray Whitney.
