Elias Leads the Devils to a 2-1 Victory over the Ducks
New York, NY - Patrik Elias was able to net a vital third period goal to lead the New Jersey Devils (3-7-1) to a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks (4-6-1) in hockey action on Friday night. In spite of the fact that the Ducks were able to score the first goal the Devils were able to come back and secure the victory.
Jason Blake netted the first goal for Anaheim on a power play goal which was assisted by Saku Koivu and Danny Syvret at the 8:07 mark of the second period. New Jersey was able to respond with a goal from Jamie Langenbrunner who netted his first goal on the season, which was assisted by Zach Parise and Rod Pelley.
It was the heroics of Elias though at the 1:54 mark of the third period that was able to relieve some of the stress that the Devils have had with their current losing streak. Elias was able to beat Anaheim keeper Jonas Hiller with a one-timer. It will take continued offensive pressure from both Elias and Langenbrunner if the Devils hope to continue to be successful in this 2010-11 NHL season.
In the cage for the Devils Martin Brodeur made 27 saves, while Hiller made 25 saves in a solid effort for the Ducks.
New Jersey now travels to Los Angeles for a 10:30 p.m. face-off against the Kings on Saturday night.
