New Jersey Takes tough loss to Colorado
New York, NY - Just when Devils fans thought that the team would start to go on a winning streak, their hopes were dashed by a very young and hungry Colorado Avalanche team. The Devils (1-3-1) were just edged out by Colorado (3-1-0) by the score of 3-2 in Friday night action at the Prudential Center.
The Avalanche took a quick 2-0 lead going into the second period before Matt Taormina connected for a power play goal at the 14:48 mark. Taormina who was set up by snipers Ilya Kovalchuk and Patrik Elias for the first goal in the 2010-11 season.
Chris Stewart struck early in the third period to give Colorado the 3-1 lead at the 4:31 mark. Kovalchuk tried to make the game close but the Devils could not cash in on any other scoring opportunities losing their first game at home this season.
Colorado keeper Craig Anderson was stellar making 41 saves for the Avalanche, while Martin Brodeur made 19 in a losing effort.
The Devils will remain at ‘The Rock’ and hope to start a new winning streak on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Boston Bruins.
