Christensen Nets Two as Rangers Blanks Capitals, 6-0

New York, NY - The New York Rangers (33-26-4) were able to pick up a huge two points on the road in their 6-0 victory over the Washington Capitals (32-20-10) in Friday night hockey action. Center Erik Christensen tallied two points to lead the Blueshirts to victory.

New York began the night with a Steve Eminger (2) slap shot at the 5:56 mark of the first period for the 1-0 lead. Christensen (7) would then tally his first of the night at the 14:47 mark of that frame to give the Blueshirts the 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Christensen (eight) would record a wrister at the 4:19 mark of the second period on a power play opportunity for the third Blueshirt goal. The Rangers would continue their offensive pressure at the 17:52 mark as Derek Stepan (17) would bang home a wrister at the 17:52 mark, making the lead 4-0 at the end of the second.

The offense would not stop there as Vinny Prospal (3) would tally a wrister at the 6:16 mark of the third period for the fifth Rangers goal. Brian Boyle (20) would end the night on a 20 foot wrister for the eventual 6-0 victory.

Henrik Lundqvist was stellar in the cage making 35 stops for New York, while on the other side of the ice Michal Neuvirth had 22 saves for Washington. For Lundqvist he continues to add to his shutout lead in the league as the Swedish keeper now has eight this season.

New York will return home to Madison Square Garden for a matinee game against the Tampa Bay Lightning as the two will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
