Rangers Get Swept up by Hurricanes, 4-1

New York, NY - The New York Rangers (27-19-3) were swept away by the offense of the Carolina Hurricanes (23-18-6) by the score of 4-1 in hockey action on Thursday night.

The Hurricanes were able to get on the board in the first period of play, at the 5:39 mark when Chad LaRose (10) wristed home the first Carolina goal. Setting up that goal was Jeff Skinner (22) and Tuomo Ruutu (26). Carolina would strike for their second goal of the game on a power play opportunity at the 14:43 mark when Jussi Jokinen (12) would tip-in the puck for the 2-0 lead.

Brandon Sutter (eight) was able to backhand the third Carolina goal at the 5:41 mark of the second period of play giving the Hurricanes to make the score 3-0. The Rangers were able to cut into that lead in the third period of play as Brandon Prust (6) tallied a snap shot at the 11:40 mark of that frame to make the score 3-1.

Carolina would continue to keep up their offensive pressure, netting one last goal from Jeff Skinner (17) to give the Hurricanes the 4-1 victory.

In the cage for Carolina Cam Ward finished the night with 39 saves while being named the third star of the game, while on the other side of the ice Rangers keeper Henrik Lundqvist made 35 saves.

New York will continue this road trip as they will head to Atlanta for a 7:00 p.m. face-off against the Thrashers on Saturday night.
