Jeff Halpern goes to NY

As we approach what seems as of this morning to be an impending lockout,  the New York Rangers have been hanging back in this offseason with a few 'depth' signings.

Out of the few new members of the team, the one most noticeable has been Jeff Halpern.

Halpern played with the Washington Capitals for his third time ('99-'04, '04-'05) signing in July 2011 for one year at $825,000.

He has also adorned the jerseys of the Habs, Kings, Stars and Lightning. In 69 GP this year, Halpern totaled 16 points, none which occurred in the two games he played during the playoffs.

So what peaked the Rangers interest?

For the  Capitals,Halpern had a 58.3 winning percentage on face-offs, making him their man for the job.  Projected to be the fourth line center, Halpern will see time during penalty kills, another one of his specialties.

Believed to receive $700,000, Halpern has signed with the Rangers for one year.
