Buffalo Sabres select Mikhail Grigorenko with 12th 2012 NHL Draft selection

 

With the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Buffalo Sabres selected Mikhail Grigorenko. Here's some background on the Russian centerman from Cheryl Adams of TCL Blackhawks. 

HOMETOWN: Khabarovsk, Russia

POSITION: Center

SHOOTS:  Left

AGE: 18

SIZE: 6'3"

WEIGHT: 200 lbs.

JUNIOR TEAM 2011-12: Quebec Remparts / QMJHL

Considered one of the top Russian prospects in this year's Draft, Grigorenko has the size and skills to make an impact on the ice. Good skater, passer, and playmaker who has good ice vision and makes plays happen.

Grigorenko is also known for his two-way play and defensive abilities. He led all rookies in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season for goals (40) and points (85), while finishing fifth overall for goals scored.

Grigorenko took a silver medal at the World Junior Championship in 2012, and a bronze at the 2011 IIHF World U18 Championships, both times playing for Russia.
