Cory Schneider gets the start between the pipes for the Canucks tonight in their most important game of the season as the Canucks try to avoid being the first President Trophy winner to be swept in the first round. The Canucks clearly have more faith in Schneider to start the big game so the bigger question is what do they do with Roberto Luongo?

Tussle At the Top

The Red Wings will attempt to rise above .500 on the road and be the first to win a road game in their season series with Vancouver tonight. The teams have split the season series with both teams winning at home, Detroit 2-0 and Vancouver 4-2. Both teams are playing well, Detroit has won eight of nine and Vancouver was 7-2-2 in January. The Red Wings hold a 3 point lead over the Canucks for the top seed in the West. 

A win can put Detroit five points ahead of #2 Vancouver in the West and #4 Nashville for the Central lead. The Red Wings have also won three of their last five games at Rogers Arena.

Two Games in One

The biggest question at the beginning of this contest between the visiting Canucks and the hometown Habs was which Habs team would show up - the Jeckyls or the Hydes. After the shootout the answer was of course - both.

The first period started well for the hometown heroes when a wrist shot by a defenceman no less went through everyone including Roberto Luongo to make it 1-0 Habs. The shot was by Steady Freddy St. Denis with assists to Cammalleri and Plekanecs. They then got into a bit of a problem with penalties giving the Canucks a 5 on 3 for almost a minute. Big Hal Gill once again did yeoman job blocking the passing lane. With approximately a minute left in the first another goal...

Game Day: Vancouver Canucks @ Phoenix Coyotes

The Vancouver Canucks and Phoenix Coyotes come from similar situations in both the Northwest and Pacific divisions, where even if wins do come on a regular basis, it's pretty hard to tell.  Despite having won four of their last six games, Phoenix sits seventh in the Western Conference and second-to-last in their own division, whereas the Stanley Cup finalists have won five of seven and aren't even in the playoffs as they sit in 11th spot, 3rd in the Northwest.

Last season these two teams split the series, each grabbing two wins in their opponent's rink (Phoenix won 3-1 and 3-2 at Rogers Arena, while Vancouver took the games at Jobing.com Arena by scores of 4-3 ...
