Shocking News

Before the Olympic break the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Kris Letang had suffered a stroke. The breaking and shocking news had left many in the hockey community stunned.

Letang is a noted “freak” of an athlete. His training regimen mocks that of power lifters, cross fit, football players, and endurance athletes. His unique blend of explosive power and endurance allows him to play over 25 minutes a night in the NHL.

All of this makes a stroke seem highly unlikely, but as the doctors noted, a prior medical condition was the root cause.

In a short press conference Kris Letang revealed that he was found the morning of his stroke by his ...

The Couch with Erol Bal - Trade Deadline Post Mortem

This week on The Couch Erol Bal gives his grade for General Manager Garth Snow and talks about how the NHL market for PA Parenteau might mean that the next few weeks will be the last time we see him in an Islanders uniform.

Deadline Decisions: Forwards

The Red Wings have achieved one of their two deadline goals with the acquisition of Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay. Quincey gives the Red Wings 8 NHL-ready defensemen, a second point man for the 2nd power play unit and some more abrasiveness on the back end.

The Wings still seek some additional depth up front. At different times, the Red Wings' desires have been stated to be a scoring winger to flesh out the top-six or a gritty, defensive forward to provide a physical presence on the 3rd or 4th line. The Wings' performance in their two games since losing Pavel Datsyuk to injury cannot be encouraging. Detroit has looked disengaged at times and has trouble maintaining offen...

Game Day: Edmonton Oilers @ Phoenix Coyotes

The Edmonton Oilers, winners of six in a row, are off to their best start in a quarter-decade. They'll be the visitors tonight at Jobing.com Arena as they face off against the Phoenix Coyotes, who after a five-game unbeaten streak fell victim to Pekka Rinne's 23rd shutout on Thursday.

The Coyotes, who were 3-1 against the Oilers last season, sent Andy Miele back to the AHL's Portland Pirates yesterday, as Cal O'Reilly is expected to start tonight.  Mike Smith will likely be the starting goaltender, and Martin Hanzal's status is still questionable. Out for the Oilers are Cam Barker, Ales Hemsky, Ryan Whitney and Darcy Hordichuk.
