Hawks prepare to face hot Avs

After a disappointing 4-1 loss against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night, the Hawks are looking to bounce back against a hot Avs team in Denver.

Halfway through their annual ‘circus trip’, the Hawks have earned four out of a potential six points in their first three games, and now are moving on to the US to round out the trip.

The Flames: Consistently Inconsistent

The Flames are terribly inconsistent and have been for years.

The PP is rolling this year, but the PK has had its struggles.

What needs to change and will the return of Kipper be the answer to their woes?

Game Preview: Flames vs Los Angeles Kings

The Flames kick off a three game homestand tonight as the defending Stanley Cup champions; Los Angeles Kings come to town for the first meeting between the clubs this season. The Flames have underperformed at the Dome thus far with a measly 2-4-2 record. The Kings will conclude their three game road trip after defeating the Oilers 3-1 last night in Edmonton.

Flames Fans: Smarten Up

You know what really grinds my gears?

Supposed fans that are dumber than this guy right here!

It's time for a rant.

What's wrong with the Calgary Flames?

9 games into the season, and the Calgary Flames remain the NHL’s greatest enigma. Nobody can seem to figure them out – as it always has, inconsistency continues to plague this team, so whats going on?

Flames Win but lose Kipper

The Flames dominated the Detroit Red Wings tonight beating them 4-1.

However, the story tonight was the loss of Miikka Kiprusoff after the second period as Leland Irving came on in relief.

How severe is the injury? And will the Flames be ok without him? I tend to think they will be...

Game Preview: Flames vs Minnesota Wild

Injuries have been the big story for both teams all season long as the Flames head into Minnesota to face the Wild this afternoon. This will be the fifth of six meetings between the clubs as the Flames have taken three straight over the Wild. Minnesota has been on a downward spiral ever since they had a league best 20-7-3 record on Dec. 10th, now sitting in 13th spot in the Western Conference and 8 points out of the final playoff spot. The Flames on the other hand, while being inconsistent have gone on a nice run recently, going 3-1-1 in their past five games and now only sit 2 points back of the 8th seeded Colorado Avalanche with two games in hand.

Bryz-Fortunate: Bryzgalov Finally Trumps In Shootout

For much of the season, the shootout has not been very friendly to the Flyers, especially goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.

But for one night, the planets aligned for Bryzgalov and the Flyers.

A big blocker stop, a pad stack, and left-handed larceny all came out of Bryzgalov's bag of tricks as he won his first shoot out of the season. It was Matt Read's snipe in round five that capped off the Flyers 5-4 come-from-behind win.

The first half of the game resembled the Flyers heartless outing on Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers; a game in which they dropped 2-0 against one of the weakest teams in the Western Conference.

For over a period and a half of play, the Flyers lacked any type of inspiration. Poor penalty killing, weak play from Bryzgalov and a bad turnover on the power play led to a quick 3-0 lead for the Flames.

Flames shut out by Sharks

The Flames head into the All Star break by losing 1-0 to the San Jose Sharks.

Through 50 games they sit in exactly the same position as last season.

Will this year be any different? Come and find out

Regehr and Tanguay

The Robyn Regehr era in Calgary has come to an end.

After spending 11 seasons dawning the flaming C, Regehr will have a new address in Buffalo, NY.

The durable defenceman (he has only missed 15 games in the last 5 seasons) was one of the Flames true leaders, and the second longest tenured player behind the one, the only, Jarome Iginla.

He will be missed in these parts.

I think the happiest person in Alberta right now has to be Ales Hemsky though. Hemsky will no longer have to endure getting tossed around like a Raggedy Ann doll in the corners by the hulking Regehr.  For so many years, Regehr has made it his top priority to ensure that Hemsky can’t even p...
