Sid Steamrolls the Sinking Isles

It took just 5 minutes and 24 seconds for Sidney Crosby to re-establish his National Hockey League presence.

Considering their play of late, it might take the New York Islanders another five years to re-establish theirs.

Amid much anticipation, hoopla, and frankly, excessive fawning, 'Sid the Kid' notched another career defining game in a career filled with them. He scored on Islanders goaltender Anders Nilsson, who was making his first NHL start, at 5:24 of the first period.

Crosby used a beautiful backhanded shot to roof the puck past Nilsson, moments after breezing by Andrew MacDonald, who had been covering him, at least in theory.

It was just the start ...

Their Worst Game Of The Season, Isles Lose 6-0 To The Bruins

"When you play this game you need to play with fire, you need to play with passion, you need to play with determination, you need to play with desperation. You need to have ice bags after the game, maybe a little blood dripping right now. When you lace your skates up the guy across from you, the guy on the right, on the left of you need to know that you got their back and we're going to play for one another. And that just didn't happen tonight and I don't have the answers why."

This is how head coach Jack Capuano started his post-game press conference after a humiliating 6-0 loss to the Boston Bruins. Fired up and with his blood boiling, Capuano came out like a...

Nilsson Called Up, Isles Take On Bruins

Coming off a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, the Islanders look to start up a winning streak tonight against the Boston Bruins.

Big story between last game and tonight's game would be the injury of Evgeni Nabokov, who will be sidelined for a few weeks with a groin injury. But that would not be all as the Islanders announced last night that goaltender Al Montoya will miss sometime with a hamstring injury.

The Islanders called up the 6' 5" Swedish netminder Anders Nilsson to back up Rick DiPietro. Nilsson, the 21 year old, is in his first season in the AHL.

The scratches for tonight's game are Mike Mottau and Kyle Okposo. Okposo will be si...

Thank You, Rick DiPietro

A letter of thanks to our "Goalie for Life"

Dear Rick DiPietro,

It has been an emotional rollercoaster since that fateful day in June, 2000 when we made you our first overall draft pick.

Our relationship has gone through phases: anxious excitement to see you establish yourself as our number one goalie, the satisfaction of seeing you rise to being an All Star (and telling Rangers fans how much better you were than Henrik Lundqvist), the despair of watching you be injured, the frustration of watching you have setback after setback on your way back to the net, to where we are today.

Today Rick, we write you to tell you that we are si...

Isles Prospect Scrimmage Doesn't Disappoint

The New York Islanders hosted their second prospect scrimmage at the Nassau Coliseum, a game featuring their top young talent in game action in the middle of the summer. Two 25-minute periods were played between the Blue and White teams that were followed by a series of drills in the skills competition. Such drills included the breakaway challenge, hardest shot, rapid fire and a game in which players had to come in on the goalie to attempt to score, and if they failed, they had to retrieve the puck and race back to the blue line. Both sides went simultaneously for that one, and it was the last event of the scrimmage to cap a highlight reel type of night.

Fans got to see a few famili...
