Hawks to face off against Flyers

The Hawks will face the Flyers for the first time this season, and the seasons couldn’t have started differently for the two teams.

The Flyers won their first game of the season just three days ago, finishing a dramatic comeback against the Dallas Stars in overtime thanks to captain Claude Giroux, but their record is still just 1-2-2, which has them sitting at seventh in the Metropolitan division and tied for thirteenth in th...

This is it: Hawks and Kings go to Game 7

It’s all come down to a one-game, winner-takes-all epic showdown at the Madhouse on Sunday night, and the hype couldn’t be higher for the Blackahwks/Kings showdown for Game 7.  The Hawks took a nerve-wracking Game 6 with a score of 4-3, sending the series back to the United Center, where the winner of Game 7 will move on to the Stanley cup final for the second time in the last three years to face the New York Rangers.  This will be the King’s third Game 7 of the playoffs, after taking both the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks to seven games in their previous two playoff series.

'Zus strikes down Kings; Hawks force Game 6

In a matchup that felt more like a Game 7 than a Game 5, the Hawks and Kings put on a show in a 5-4 double OT win for the Blackhawks.  Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick both made 40 saves, and it was Michal Handzus who would put it away for the Hawks 2:04 into the second overtime period.

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on a power play just 1:13 into the first that had Drew Doughty in the box for tripping Jonathan Toews. Brent Seabrook let los...

Hawks look to take 2-0 series lead against Kings

The Blackhawks face off against the Kings again Wednesday night on home ice, with the hopes that they can head to LA with a 2-0 lead over their conference final opponents.  The Kings, despite outshooting the Hawks 17-6 in the second period of Game 1, couldn’t truly solve Corey Crawford, and Chicago also believes that there’s another level that they haven’t yet reached in the postseason.

The Kings went into Game 1 with less than forty-eight...

Hawks look to rebound in Game 4

The Hawks and Wild will face off in a Game 4 that could could be classified as a ‘must-win’ for either team.  While this isn’t a Game 7 scenario, a win for either team could change the momentum of the series.

The Hawks still hold the series lead at 2-1, but they fell flat in their first road game against the Wild, failing to get a single puck past netminder Ilya Bryzgalov.  They’ll need to step up their offense and ...

Hawks look to take Game 2 against Wild

After a 5-2 win at the United Center on Friday night, the Hawks are looking to keep up their winning ways at home with another victory in a Sunday matinee matchup against the Wild.

Though the Hawks came away victorious in Friday’s game, they did so after being vastly outplayed in the second period, getting outshout 17-3 but managing to keep the game within reach before turning it on in the third.  They also lost teammate and playoff pest Andrew Shaw, who l...

Blackhawks take 1-0 lead in Western Semifinals vs Wild

One of these days, the Chicago Blackhawks will play the level of hockey they're capable of for a full sixty minutes, and the other team will end up looking silly.

Tonight wasn't one of those nights, but the Blackhawks still came away with a 5-2 win in Game 1 of the Western Semifinals vs. the Minnesota Wild.

The Blackhawks scored their first two goals on the power play. Bryan Bickell tipped a Brent Seabrook blast to put Chicago on the board first, late in the first.

After a strong first, the Blackhawks let the Wild take over in the second. Minnesota not only limited Chicago to a mere 3 SOG, but they peppered Corey Crawford with 17. Despite that, the Blackhawk...

Blackhawks tie up series 2-2 on third OT of series

Anybody who counted the Blackhawks out after they went down 0-2 versus the St. Louis Blues in the opening round might be feeling a little silly right about now.

However, the Blackhawks still haven't played their best hockey. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, after each missing the final couple of weeks of the regular season with injuries, are rounding into form. The team as a whole has more gears.

The Blues are playing the kind of hockey that kept them at or near the top of the Central all season. In particular, Vladimir Tarasenko has been marvelous so far in the playoffs, averaging a goal per game, to lead the league for playoff goals.

St. Louis starte...

In defense of Jeremy Morin

Jeremy Morin has followed a similar career path as Brandon Pirri, bouncing between the minors and big league club and never really sticking or making consistent contributions.  Pirri was traded to Florida, and many thought Morin would be the next out of Rockford. Instead, he’s making his case for the playoffs, and it’s a good one.  After scoring four goals in the last five games, Morin was spotted at Tuesday’s practice with a white practice jersey on- which means he’s a ‘5th line guy’ or healthy scratch.  This should not happen.

Hawks down Stars on 'Teuvo Tuesday'

After a flat performance on Sunday against the Predators, the Hawks came out with a purpose and put away a 4-2 win against a Dallas Stars team desperate for points as the playoff race continues.  Corey Crawford was sharp in the win with 25 saves.

The buzz around the UC was that Teuvo Teravainen would be making his NHL debut.  He would get a cheer from the crowd on his first shift, and while he didn’t earn any points in his debut, he made a c...
